Join the JobsAware Online Recruitment Scheme
Are you a job board? Help protect jobseekers and employer brands from advertising fraud, as part of your duties under the Online Safety Act.
What is the Online Recruitment Scheme?
Created to help combat the problem of online job advertising fraud
According to research by the Online Safety Act’s regulator, Ofcom, 30% of UK online adults have reported encountering a fake employment scam. Almost two-thirds of UK adults believe tech firms should have responsibility to act against online fraud.
Co-designed with leading job boards to protect jobseekers and employer brands
The scheme is based on an industry Code of Practice, written with some of the UK’s largest online recruitment platforms, including reed.co.uk, CV Library and Totaljobs. It helps online recruitment platforms meet their duties under the Online Safety Act.
Delivered in partnership with UKAS-accredited certification body
Our certification partner, British Assessment Bureau, will audit and certify members against the scheme requirements, helping job boards ensure they have the right processes in place to identify, stop and report fraudulent activity related to job advertising.
Supported by the UK’s Anti-Fraud Champion and the Minister for Labour Markets
“I am delighted to support the JobsAware online recruitment scheme aimed at tackling fake job adverts that not only defraud people looking for jobs, but also lead to other labour abuses such as modern slavery. This scheme is an excellent example of an industry stepping up to protect the public to meet the requirements of the Online Safety Act.”
Simon Fell MP, UK Anti-Fraud Champion
“Businesses and workers often have to face difficulties with online recruitment which is why I’m pleased to see an industry-led solution that will deal with these challenges. This scheme will incentivise businesses to follow the rules they have set and give workers the confidence to use recruitment sites, helping to create the strong labour market the country needs to deliver economic growth.”
Kevin Hollinrake MP, Minister for Enterprise, Markets and Small Business
What are the benefits of joining the scheme?
Provide assurance to your users and clients
In a competitive global marketplace, it is more important than ever that online recruitment platforms operating in the UK are seen as a safe and trusted destination for workers and businesses from all over the world.
Win and retain more business
Being able to demonstrate a commitment to preventing fraud is becoming increasingly important to winning and retaining business, as big employers will look to prioritise platforms that take this risk seriously and have appropriate controls in place.
Demonstrate compliance with legislation
An efficient and cost-effective way to help demonstrate compliance with duties in the Online Safety Act, in particular section 7.2 as it relates to user-to-user services such as online recruitment platforms.
Prevent reputational damage
The reputational and financial cost of failing to have appropriate controls in place to prevent and mitigate instances of fraud can be severe, if there is no way to verify that suitable controls are in place.
